I’m planning a trip to South East China this late July or early August for about 2 weeks. Primary destinations in mind are Wuyuan in eastern Jiangxi Province and Wuyishan in NW Fujian. Not 100% decided yet, but may venture to the Minjiang River Estuary near Fuzhou, or Shanghai.

I will be starting from Taiwan, via Kinmen (Jinmen) Island (will bird for a day or two), and Xiamen. Will be returning to Taiwan, possibly via Fuzhou/Matsu Islands (may bird for a day). Contact me, Richard, at [email protected] if interested in meeting at some/every stage and sharing costs. Plans still evolving.

I speak/read Chinese well, know Taiwan birds well, and have some modest experience birding in Fujian and Zhejiang. Most travel will be by public transport, with some private vehicles/local guides, standard-grade accommodation usually. Aim to get a good feel for each area - as well as viewing it’s (common/star) birds, flora, infrastructure, and entomology.

Priority, and ‘of great interest’ birds. [excuse the rough editing, some rogue species]:

Your plans sound fantastic and I would be very much up for coming along if I was not already committed to a jaunt though Indonesia this Jul / Aug. Very best of luck.

Yes, lots of fun getting the nitty gritty straight in my head - while trying to focus on what I NEED to do in the meantime of a more tedious sort...Indonesia - have fun!
