Thought this forum could do with a fresh post.

Someone wanted to know where to find dippers in Glos. So I thought I'd share a nice walk I do with my dog quite regularly. It has the advantage of having a pub at start/end.

The walk starts and finishes at the Daneway, passes through beautiful Siccardge woods, follows the River Frome for a stretch and the disused Stroud Canal. To Chalford - I normally turn round here and retrace my steps. (the whole walk is probably 4.5 miles)

I've seen lots of wildlife - most times I see Dipper along river. Occasional grass snake in summer swimming up the canal, lots of kingfishers, grey wagtails, nuthatch, black cap, goldcrest, marsh tit etc.

There are supposed to be otters and dormice but I've not seen either of those.

You can see the route on live maps here:

Sorry the push pins are out of order but you should get the idea.

Hi Milou
The Chalford Valley is certainly a great place for a walk. Do you see Buzzard or Sparrowhawk along there? And any Bramblings this winter?- there have been a lot about on the Cotswold scarp and elsewhere in Gloucs.
