Soldier Beetle ID? (Herefordshire, UK) (1 Viewer)

Hi All

I found these beetles on some reeds that were in an old estate lake.

They are extremely iridescent and I have looked through everything I can find on UK beetles - nada!

Could someone please take a look? I think it is a soldier beetle of some sort, but I could easily be wrong.

Thanks, Gareth

Hi Paul (aeshna5), I have tried to look into this further and I believe I might have found the species.
From the elytral apices, it cannot be D. vulgaris but it looks remarkably like D. simplex.

Interestingly, it is the only Donacia to be found recorded at Berrington Hall, Herefordshire
(www.gbif.org/occurrence/map?taxon_key=4461510). The exact place where I photographed them!

Thanks again. G
