Suggestion for Northern Italy please (1 Viewer)

I will be landing at Milan on the 18th of September and would appreciate ideas on what area/town to stay in for birding/hiking/exploring. I have one week in Northern Italy with no itinerary, anywhere between Milan and Slovenia is open. I would love to go to areas around the Alps and Dolomites. I did check www.birdingpals.org but did not receive any replies. I was hoping to bird with soem locals, looks like I will likely miss that opportunity. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
