Not about this bird in particular, but there's one thing I don't understand:

Is BirdID's Bird Guide wrong? There appear to be dark centres to greater coverts in Blasco Zumeta's ringing guide as well.

Not about this bird in particular, but there's one thing I don't understand:
Spectacled Warblers do have black centres to the GC's but they are not normally visible with the wing held closed. Re the Macaulay link, in this instance, some of the GC's are misplaced thus revealing the black centres, while in Blasco Zumeta's ringing guide, the wings are fully extended with the same result. http://blascozumeta.com/specie_files/12640_Curruca_conspicillata_E.pdf
