Sylvietta ruficapilla makayii White, CMN, 1953 OD here

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims:

M. G. Makayi (DNF) was an African hunter and collector for the describer in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia).

The old key:

M. G. Makayi (fl. 1950) African hunter, collector for C. M. N. White in Northern Rhodesia (subsp. Sylvietta ruficapilla).

I have no clue if M. G. is correct and who he was.

At least I doubt he is the same person as in

Huxley TH 1868. On Saurosternon Bainii, and Pristerodon McKayi, Two New Fossil Lacertilian Reptiles from South Africa. Geological Magazine
5(47):201-205. here

To much time difference.

I guess you never know, but it strikes me as a bit odd that he would have named a bird, for which he only listed material in the British Museum (i.e., nothing in "White collection"), collected by William John Ansorge 43 years earlier, after his own collector...

Sure that's why I mentioned the time diffference (it might be better to call it publication date.). Nevertheless I did not identify evidence for M.G. nor that he collected for White in the OD. But of course this could be mentioned in other White publications.

I thought about this Makayi

....much to the amusement of everyone), Makumela, Mulongesha (mother's brother of Headman Ng'ombi), Makayi (younger brother of Chibwakata), Nsanji (younger brother of Mbimbi and Lambakasa),...

..but miss the final evidence why for him. He is mentioned several times in the book. White is also mentioned in the book e.g. here (footnote).
