Taking the Nikon P5000 out for some exercise (1 Viewer)

I managed to pick up a third party adapter for the P5000 on my trip to Seoul (I've never seen so many cameras as they had in the Electronics World Department Stores ) so I went out and about with it today.
I tested it on my favorite subjects at iso 64 - 1600 and against the Canon A640 and Fuji F31fd.
I'm still working through the photos but here are the first ones. The original size at iso64, a cropped version out of the camera and adjusted in CS2.
Subject about 25 metres away.
I will post more comparisons after dinner. Neil.

The Auto-focus on the P5000 seemed very fast and accurate. Better than the F31fd and also ahead of the A640. Because of it's bright screen it's also much easier to see the image is in focus both before and after taken the photo. The speed per frame is no better than the CP4500 at 0.8 frames/sec which puts it way behind the F31fd.
Left to right - P5000,F31fd, A640
Distance 10 metres.

I agree w/ Paul. Well done, Neil!

Here's a Virginia Rail I took this past weekend w/ the P5000 and Zeiss 85.
I like the camera!

Jerry,
Wonderful image. Now if you wanted to "cheat" a little and Clone out the few hotspots in the foliage you could have an award winning shot there.
Neil.

I took the P5000 out for a proper test in the wilds of the New Territories yesterday at Mai Po where I do most of my wader photography. There are not many waders around at the moment but I was looking for the Painted Snipe and the Black-winged Stilts that have recently had young there. With the thunderstorms we've been having the last few days the air was relatively clear in the late afternoon.
I also used the Nikon 8400 and the Canon A640.
The slow frames/sec rate caused my a lot of lost images of feeding stilts as they were 2/3rds to full frame and they kept walking out of the frame before the camera had taken the shot. Even the snipe was too fast for it sometimes.
The bright, sharp screen came into it's own shooting from the hide and it is the best screen I've seen for framing and focus. You get a Green Focus confirmation spot at the top of the screen and well as the Area Spot Focus brackets also change from white to green when focus is obtained. Very useful. For exposure issues if you are up against the fastest shutter speed the Aperture indicator flashes at the bottom of the screen. This is better than the F30/31 where one light indicates both functions
Here are some of the P5000 images taken between 4 - 6.30 at distances of 15 - 20 metres, except the night heron which was about 35 metres. Neil

Neil and Jerry

You can't get digiscoped pictures better than those, brilliant.

Haven't had much time with my P5000 so far, but what I have, I like.

Thanks for posting

Malc

Neil & Jerry,

These pictures are great thanks for sharing. Shots like these inspire the idea that one day I might capture images this good. Keep up the good work.

John

Very nice set of shots Neil, really sharp with good exposure.

Jerry, you always seem to come up trumps with digiscoping, well done.
