Top day out in Gloucestershire (1 Viewer)

Aldershot till I die!
Hi guys,

Had a brilliant day yesterday, started off at Nagshead RSPB, what a wonderful reserve it is, beautiful mixed woodlands with two hides overlooking drinking pools. Went to "Lower Hide" first & found a nice pair of Redstarts, en route heard Garden Warbler & Blackcap & had close views of a Buzzard. Next I followed the marked woodland trail & found Goldcrest, then fantastic! saw a male Pied Flycatcher which gave good views. Later I found a stunning male Wood Warbler, nice bird & very scarce in my local area! During the course of the walk, I heard 3 more Wood Warblers & had even better views of a pair of Pied Flys inspecting a nest box.
After lunch at Nagshead, next stop was Frampton for the Glossy Ibis'. On arriving at the site, made my way to the field overlooking the flashes & quickly got onto the Glossies, awesome! Counted 15 in all, somehow seemed surreal seeing this many in the UK, they moved between the two flashes separated by a hedgerow. An amazing sight when they all took flight together, particularly when a Peregrine put them up! Also present were 4 Garganey, a nice bonus, they are my favourite species of Duck. After spending a couple of hours at Frampton, decided to make the 2 hour drive home, a top day out!

Cheers,

John.

two great reserves, you did well to get all 3 specialities at nagshead, and you did well to see all the glossys too.

Cheers Wolfie,

First time I've been to Nagshead, definately be back next year, well impressed.
Good luck in the play offs against the baggies!

John.
