British and Irish race, britannica. Distinctly darker than nominate familiaris, in both rufous-brown ground-colour and overlay of buffier marks; also rather duller white on supercilium and underparts, with variable but sometimes quite distinct buff wash on flank, rear belly, and under tail-coverts. Differs most strikingly in rear view, lacking 'ghostly' lines on crown and back and having contrasts of wing pattern suppressed.
