As usual in my garden, California Scrub-Jays come in to snatch some sunflower seeds at my feeders daily, and there are several individuals. They all have regular and normal coloration except for one bird that has some odd striping and flashes. This bird looks 100% like a normal California Scrub-Jay except for the fact that it has a white, relatively thick line on the edge of its wing and primaries. Whenever it flies, there is a bright white tail flash as one sees in Dark-eyed Juncos or Northern Mockingbirds. I was thinking that it could be partially leucistic, or that it is some sort of hybrid, but any help on identification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |;|
