Just updating the monthly list for the reserve; has anyone recorded any of the following in March so far:
Common Gull, Meadow Pipit, Siskin, Collared Dove, Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Coal Tit, Jay, Raven, Nuthatch, Yellowhammer
As the light faded more and more Black Headed Gulls came in to roost. A pink flushed individual was present and by the time I left, just after 6 about 3000 were present with more arriving! I looked at a lot but no Med Gulls
Oops - 300 but seemed like 3000!Hi Gert - I assume that this wasnt a mistype - three thousand !!!!

Nice one, Sy,
That Sand Martin is pretty much on cue. Median arrival date over the past 10 years is 13th March with a standard deviation of 6.3 days (z= -0.63, Q = 0.26). There was about a 1 in 4 chance of one turning up this early. Being earlier than the median date continues the general trend for this species which has become significantly earlier in its arrival over the dacades: t(18) = 4.47, p <0.001 for the periods 1946 - 1976 versus 2002 - 2011.
...........Dave - another indicator of climate change?
.................
Gull numbers were very impressive this morning. Although numbers were fluctuating there were at times upto 6/700 BH Gulls, 60 plus LBBG, 20 Herring Gulls and 1 Yellow Legged Gull.
Also 4 Oystercatchers with these alternating between Moors pool and paddocks behind Lifestyles.
Really? that would be a lifer for me :eek!:
And me actually, one of those birds though which I cannot get motivated to seek out, just figure I will spy upon one sooner or later.
Tell me that Sand Martin didn't arrive just after I left! Nice one
