Using Coolpix whilst plugged in / charging? (1 Viewer)

I would like to use my P1000 to record video of a distant bird's nest so that I can play it back later and see what's been going on. Unfortunately, the battery life and memory storage card only allow about 30 mins of video. If I plug it in and try to run the camera off the mains, it automatically turns itself off and starts charging. Is there some way of setting up the camera so that it records video for longer periods, e.g. 6-8 hours? I would imagine that reducing the video quality and using a bigger storage card would help, but the battery would still run out pretty quickly.

Thanks!

You may be hampered by the old EU rule that would increase taxation if the camera could record more than 30 minutes:
