Victure HC500 External Power Problem (2 Viewers)

I have a Victure HC500 and been using AA Lithium non rechargeable batteries for a couple of years. I have now purchased a small 6v battery and have a lead with I'm sure the correct jack as I have measured pin a outside diameters and checked polarity, however attaching battery does nothing as far as I can tell. I also have a 6v mains supply and tried in the house but nothing. My question is do batteries have to be rechargeable when using external supply or am I missing something?
Help would be appreciated
