Hello, Bird experts!

My friend spotted this bird in Harrison Lake, BC by the water. It looks darker in the photo, but colour is brownish in person. Fairly large - wing span is easily 3 - 4 ft.

Do you have any clues what this bid might be?

That a usual wingspan for an immature bald or an adult?
There will be some difference but not much. In the vast majority of bird species, individuals are all much the same size once they've left the nest.
Ed. ...once they can fly. (Thanks, Nartreb, for the nudge.)

As a rule, birds are fully grown when they leave the nest. (Swimming birds like ducks, and walking birds like chickens, are exceptions -they leave the nest long before they can fly.)
