Found on the edge of a rice swamp in Kono district in the east of Sierra Leone w. Africa. The behaviour of the birds (4 or 5 in the same shrub) looked like fledglings to me. Beeping a lot as if waiting on feeding.

It looks like a juvenile sunbird. Did you manage to see any that looked like adults? The best I can suggest is Collared Sunbird (juv), mainly based on facial pattern (yellow supercilium and arch below the eye) and bill shape.

Plenty of collared Sunbirds around here. Seem to have never gotten juv.s in my garden so far although I see them every day. Thanx.
