Just looking through some images from 2016 which I labelled at the time as Chiffchaff and now I'm hacing doubts. The PP seems too long and the colouration - should I rename them as Willow Warbler? Thanks,

Thanks, Alexander. I've never been certain what is meant by emarginations, could you explain or point me to somewhere that does please?
Thanks again,

David

Is it possible for someone/anyone to add arrows to the pictures clarifying Alexander’s comments.
I understand what is being said…..but not really sure where he is looking

Look at the last image, then look at where the wing rests on the body.

The first long primary that you see is P2, the one above is P3 and the one above that is P4.

On each of those 3 primaries you reach a point along the wing where they disappear underneath the overlying primary, almost like steps into shadow, these are the emarginations and there are three.

A Chiffchaff has 4….on 3,4,5 and 6.

Hoping that is clearer than mud!🤣
