- Elaenia flavogaster
Identification
16.5cm. Olive-brown upperparts, white eye ring, bushy divided crest, white crown patch in the parting, pale throat, grey breast, pale yellow lower underparts.
Distribution
Southern Mexico, northern Argentina, and on Trinidad and Tobago.
Taxonomy
Four subspecies are recognized:[1]
- E.f. subpagana - Southern Mexico (Oaxaca and Veracruz) to Costa Rica; Coiba Island.
- E.f. pallididorsalis - Panama; Cébaco and Pearl Islands
- E.f. flavogaster - Colombia to the Guianas, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Trinidad
- E.f. semipagana - Tropical western Ecuador and northwest Peru; Isla Puná
Habitat
Semi-open woodland, scrub, gardens and cultivation.
Behaviour
This species is usually a resident, maintaining year-round territories and with an extended breeding season. It makes a cup nest; 2 cream eggs with reddish blotches at the larger end are laid. The female incubates for 16 days, with about the same period to fledging.
The diet includes berries and insects.
