Alternative name: Jardine's Parrot

Identification

32 cm. Large, largely green parrot with red or orangy blaze on forehead to crown.

  • body mid green
  • wings and mantle darker, with dark/blackish feather centres
  • underparts brighter and more yellow due to broadly yellow feathers with green fringing
  • leading edge of wing with variable red patches
  • under wing dark
  • upper tail dark
  • eye golden or amber
  • orbital skin variably orange or white (age-related?)
  • cere variably orangy or whitish
  • loral area often with extensive dark patch
  • bill has upper mandible with extensive pale patch from base with a variably darker cutting edge. Lower mandible dark
  • thighs green but with distal part orange-red
  • feet may be orangy or greyish
