Alternative name: Long-legged Warbler

Cincloramphus rufus

Megalurulus rufus, Trichocichla rufa

Identification

19cm. Long tail, long legs, plumage is reddish brown, the throat, breast and belly white and the face being marked with a distinctive eye-stripe.

Distribution

Fiji.
Very rare. Thought to be extinct but in 2003 some small populations were discovered on Viti Levu.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies accepted:

  • M. r. rufus on Viti Levu
  • M. r. cluniei on Vanua Levu (probably extinct, last seen 1974)

Sometimes placed in genus Trichocichla

Habitat

Mountain forest.

Behaviour

It is a ground feeder.
