Identification

Breeding male - black, fluffy yellow crown, back rump, flanks and under tail-coverts.

Distribution

Africa.

Taxonomy

Euplectes afer has three subspecies:[1]

  • E. a. afer
  • E. a. strictus
  • E. a. taha

Habitat

Lakesides and reed beds.
