Least Flycatcher - BirdForum Opus

Empidonax minimus

Identification

Gray-olive upperparts, darker wings and tail, white underparts; bold white eye ring, white wing bars, a small bill and a short tail. Gray breast, yellow sides to the belly. The bill is dark above, with pinkish lower mandible; blackish legs.

Similar Species

It is similar in appearance to the larger Eastern Wood Pewee.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

Open deciduous or mixed woods.

Behaviour

They make a cup nest on a fork in a small tree.

Diet includes insects taken in flight or from foliage, also berries.

Voice

The song is a dry che-bec. The call is a sharp whit.
