Identification

17–18 cm

  • Greyish head
  • Reddish-brown upperparts
  • Black lores

Distribution

Central and South America:
Central America: Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia

Taxonomy

  • North-central Colombia (Magdalena Valley)
  • M. r. venezuelensis:
  • M. r. ralloides:
  • Central Peru (La Libertad and Huánuco) to northern Bolivia

Habitat

Cloud forests; observed at heights around 2100m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet consists of fruit and insects.
