Identification
Black and olive brown streaks on the back, slate underparts, pale grey throat, black tail, lower flanks and under tail coverts barred black and white, short bill. Sexes are alike.
Distribution
This species is found in South America from Colombia to Argentina east of the Andes.

- P. a. albicollis - E Brazil to Paraguay, e Bolivia and extreme n Argentina
Habitat
Seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland and swamps.
Behaviour
The nest is a large open bowl made out of dry grass, placed on the ground or just above,hidden between tree roots or grass. 2-5 eggs are laid.
The diet includes insects and insect larvae and grass seeds.
