Identification
9–11·5 cm (3½-4½ in)
- Scarlet head, neck, upper breast and mantle to uppertail-coverts
Distribution
South east Asia: found in the Lesser Sundas, Indonesia.
Taxonomy
Formerly regarded as conspecific with Wakolo Myzomela. Vocal and some plumage differences between the two subspecies may warrant elevation of annabellae to species status as "Tanimbar Myzomela" (M. annabellae).
Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies [1] which may represent different species:
- M. b. boiei: Banda (eastern Lesser Sundas)
- M. b. annabellae: "Tanimbar Myzomela". Eastern Lesser Sundas (Babar, Yamdena and Selaru)
Habitat
Moist lowland forests, mangrove forests, and moist montanes.
Behaviour
Usually seen singly or in pairs; occasionally in flocks.
