- Picus mineaceus
Identification
Red crest with yellow tip,red wings,dull greenish mantle with pale wavy barrings together with chestnut underparts marked with whitish barrings diagnostic.Male=Red sides of head...Female=Sides of head brownish with white spots.-voice=short strident pi-eew on a falling tone.
Distribution
Tenasserim(Myanmar) and the Malay Pensular to the Greater Sundas.

Habitat
Forests and forests edges,mangroves,coastal scrub,plantations.
Behaviour
Usualy frequents the middle and lower storeys in pairs or small groups.Forages largely among vines and rotting wood.
