Identification

12–13 cm (4¾-5 in)

  • Bright rufous cap
  • Brown upperparts
  • Buffy underparts
  • Long brown tail
  • Horn coloured legs

Variation

Birds from coastal salt marshes seems to be darker with different bill shape compared to those of inland marshes

Distribution

South America: found from extreme southern Brazil to Uruguay and central Argentina

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Swamps and saline marshes.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of a variety of arthropods.
