Identification

18cm. Olive-green, short, down-curved, bright yellow bill, red-orange bare eye patch, orange-yellow feet and legs, squared off tail. Sexes are similar. Young birds are duller and browner, with a paler eye patch.

Distribution

Eastern and south-eastern Australia.

Taxonomy

Monotypic.

Habitat

Open eucalypt forests and woodlands with a dense shrubby understorey, temperate zone in broad gullies of foothills or on coastal plains, suburban areas especially around creeks or other water sources.

Behaviour

The diet includes insects and nectar.

1-3 eggs are laid and are incubated for 15 days; the young fledge after a further 15 days.
