Black-headed Cuckooshrike - BirdForum Opus

Identification

18cm. Male - ash grey, black head, wings and tail and whitish underparts.

Female - grey head, part black and white underparts.

Distribution

South and south-east Asia.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies:

  • C. m. melanoptera
  • C. m. sykesi

Habitat

Woodlands.

Behaviour

It is usually seen in pairs.

The diet includes insects and berries such as lantana.

Nesting occurs from March to August. Its nest isa shallow cup made of twigs and rootlets bound together with cobwebs and secured on the top surface of a bough.
