- Threskiornis melanocephalus
Identification
75 cm. White-plumaged, greyer areas on the wings, black bald head, black neck and legs, yellow, thick curved bill. Sexes are similar, but juveniles have whiter necks and a black bill.
Distribution
India, China, Sumatra, and the Philippines seem to be extremes of the range of this species.
Taxonomy
This member of the family Threskiornithidae has previously been considered a part of the Sacred Ibis, but is now considered a full species.
Habitat
Marshy wetlands inland and on the coast.
Behaviour
The diet includes various fish, frogs, other water creatures, and insects.
It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays 2–4 eggs.
