Laterallus jamaicensis
Photographed just before midnight on June 14, 1975, at Elliott Island Marsh, Maryland, USA. "I saw this rail unrestrained in the wild before it was captured and examined by a researcher".

Identification

Distribution & Taxonomy

Black Rail has four subspecies distributed from the USA to Chile; there are gaps in the range. One additional form was split from this species and called Junin Rail after being described as species in 1983, however, not all authorities have accepted this split.
