Distribution
Queensland in Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia (provinces Papua and West Papua).
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Six subspecies are recognized[1]:
- G. p. palpebrosa:
- North-western New Guinea, Aru, Waigeo, Misool and Salawati islands
- G. p. wahnesi:
- Yapen Island and northern New Guinea
- G. p. inconspicua:
- South-eastern New Guinea (west to upper Fly River)
- G. p. tarara:
- Southern New Guinea (Moorhead River to mouth of Fly River)
- G. p. personata:
- Northern Queensland (Cape York Peninsula)
- G. p. flavida:
- Eastern Queensland (Burdekin River to about Maryborough)
The last subspecies (G. p. flavida) has in the past been considered a full species, and did then carry the common name of Fairy Gerygone; the remainder of the subspecies were known as Black-headed Gerygone.
