Taxonomy
Sometimes regarded conspecific with Golden Whistler.
Subspecies
There are 12 subspecies, split into two species by Gill and Donsker[3]:
- Fiji Whistler
- P. v. bella on Vatu Vara Island
- P. v. koroana on Karo Island
- P. v. torquata on Taveuni Island
- P. v. aurantiiventris on Yanganga and Vanua Levu Islands (except southeast)
- P. v. ambigua on southeast Vanua Levu, Rabi and Kioa
- P. v. optata on southeast Viti Levu and Ovalau
- P. v. graeffii on Waya and Viti Levu Islands
- White-throated Whistler
- P. v. utupuae: Utupua Island (Solomon Islands)
- P. v. ornata: Northern Santa Cruz Islands
- P. v. kandavensis: Kandavu Islands (Fiji)
- P. v. lauana: Southern Lau Archipelago (Fiji)
- P. v. vitiensis: Ngau (Fiji)
Clements[1] lumps Fiji Whistler and White-throated Whistler but splits utupuae and ornata as Temotu Whistler (Pachycephala utupuae).

Feeds mainly on insects and spiders.
