Distribution

Central and South America: found from tropical eastern Panama to northern Argentina.

Subspecies

There are 6 subspecies^[1]:

• P. c. xanthochlorus

• eastern Panama, northern Colombia, and northwestern Venezuela

• P. c. capistratus

• eastern Ecuador, northern Peru and southeastern Colombia east, north of the Amazon, to northeastern Brazil and the Guianas

• P. c. paraensis

• northeast Brazil

• P. c. laemostictus

• eastern Peru and northern Bolivia east, south of the Amazon, to central Amazonian Brazil

• P. c. chrysochloros

• central and south Brazil to Bolivia, west Paraguay and north Argentina

• P. c. polyzonus

• southeast Brazil (Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro)

Habitat

Chaco, open fields with bushes.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of ants and termites.
