South-east Asia (endemic): found in Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sulawesi, Sula Islands, Moluccas
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- P. p. talautensis:
- Talaud Islands (northern Moluccas)
- P. p. platurus:
- Sulawesi, Togian, Banggai and adjacent islands
- P. p. sinerubris:
- Sula Islands (Taliabu and Mangole)
Habitat
Lowland rainforest up to 3000 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of seeds and small fruit, particularly mangoes.
