Taxonomy
Thalasseus bergii has six subspecies:[1]
- T. b. bergii
- Namibia and South Africa; disperses to Mozambique
- T. b. enigmus
- Islands off Mozambique, Zambezi River delta and Madagascar
- T. b. thalassinus
- T. b. velox
- T. b. cristatus
- Malaysia to Philippines and Ryukyus; eastern Australia to Society Islands.
- T. b. gwendolenae
- Western and north-western Australia
