- Arborophila ardens
Identification
c.28 cm. Grey-brown, head with boldly contrasting white ear-covert spot, narrow whitish supercilium and striking rufous-orange necklace separating black throat from grey breast.
Distribution
Endemic to Hainan island, off the south coast of China.
Taxonomy
Habitat
Tropical evergreen forest, both broadleaf and mixed coniferous-broadleaf
Behaviour
Extremely difficult to see - a typical arborophila!
In 2004 it was under study at Bawangling National Nature Reserve on Hainan by Zhang Yu, a Chinese research student.
