Distribution
South-east Asia: found in Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sulawesi, Moluccas
Taxonomy
Six subspecies accepted, split into five species by Clements [1]:
- Sula Golden Bulbul (Thapsinillas longirostris)
- T. l. longirostris: Sula Islands (Taliabu, Mangole and Sanana)
- T. l. harterti: Banggai Islands (Peleng, Banggai, Labobo and Banda)
- Sangihe Golden Bulbul (Thapsinillas platenae)
- T. l. platenae: Sangihe Island, Sulawesi
- Togian Golden Bulbul (Thapsinillas aurea)
- T. l. aurea: Togian Islands (off Sulawesi)
- Halmahera Golden Bulbul (Thapsinillas chloris)
- T. l. chloris: Northern Moluccas (Morotai, Halmahera, Bacan and Kasiruta)
- Obi Golden Bulbul (Thapsinillas lucasi)
- T. l. lucasi: Obi (northern Moluccas)
Formerly included in Golden Bulbul together with Buru Golden Bulbul and Seram Golden Bulbul.
Clements [1] places this species in the genus Alophoixus, Howard and Moore formerly in Hypsipetes.
