Identification

14–15 cm (5½-6 in)

  • Greyish-green periorbital patch
  • Small crest

Male

  • Brownish crown
  • Rufous-chestnut crest and nape
  • Olive-brown upperparts, wings and tail

Distribution

South America: endemic to east Amazonian Brazil (near west bank of lower River Tapajós)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

They are found in the understorey of humid lowland evergreen forests.

Behaviour

Their diet consists almost entirely of insects. They follow army ant aswarms.
