Xiphorhynchus flavigaster

Identification

Bill long, strong, and almost straight.

Similar species

Most similar to Streak-headed Woodcreeper which has smaller, shorter, but more strongly curved bill, and is less boldly marked on mantle.

Distribution

From Mexico (southern Sonora and Tamaulipas) south to northwest Costa Rica.

Taxonomy

Seven subspecies are recognized1:

  • X.f. tardus
  • X.f. mentalis
  • X.f. flavigaster
  • X.f. saltuarius
  • X.f. ascensor
  • X.f. yucatanensis
  • X.f. eburneirostris
