Identification
Black head and back, the wings are black with a white band across them, the belly is white. The female has a brown head, back and wings (except for a white band across the wings), belly is a light grey.
Distribution
Taxonomy
3 subspecies are recognized[1]:
- C. a. albospecularis:
- Northeastern Madagascar (intergrading with inexspectatus in central eastern Madagascar)
- C. a. inexspectatus:
- Southeastern Madagascar (intergrading with albospecularis in central eastern Madagascar)
- C. a. pica (Pelzeln's Magpie-robin):
- Northern, western, and southern Madagascar (Tsaranatana massif south to the Androy region)
