Identification

The Mountain Papaya is a small tree of about 10 meters (33 ft) tall with broad leaves that are attached by a long green stem about two feet long to the trunk of the tree.

Fruit

The fruit is about 6–15 cm long and 3–8 cm broad, and is green, maturing yellow and orange.

Distribution

Andes of northwestern South America, Colombia, Brazil, Panama, Bolivia and central Chile.

Taxonomy

Habitat

The Papaya tree is native to the tropics of the Americas, and grows in semi-cultivated areas from southern Mexico to Central America.
