Identification

12-13 cm.

  • Long, straight bill
  • Orange throat, breast and belly
  • Central tail feathers are elongated and tipped white

Female with shorter wings and bill, juvenile has ochraceous feather margins on upperparts.

Similar species

Koepcke's Hermit is larger and has a dark brown throat with whitish malar and gular stripes.

Distribution

West Brazil (south of river Amazon to west bank or River Tapajós), north Bolivia and east Peru.
Locally common.
