Plumed Whistling Duck - BirdForum Opus

Identification

  • Tall bird with a long neck
  • Face and foreneck are light, the hind neck and crown are pale brown, the upper back is brown
  • The breast is chestnut and has black bars
  • Bill is pink and grey; the feet and legs are pink.
  • The sexes are alike.
  • Paler then Wandering Whistling-Duck

Distribution

New Guinea and Australia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.[1]

Habitat

Margins of swamps, marshes, mangroves, grassland, scrub

Behaviour

This bird feeds at night on grasses and seeds. Large Roosting Camps are formed during the day. 10-12 white eggs are laid.
