Malurus coronatus

Identification

14-16cm (5½-6¼ in)
Male:

  • Lilac Crown, black mask, nape face and spot in the center of the Lilac
  • Tail Blue, other then Central pair, which are tipped white
  • Race coronatus: Cinnamon-brown Back and wings, Throat, breast off white, and flanks buff
  • Race macgillivrayi: Grey-brown replaced Brown Black and wings, Throat and breast white.

Female:

  • Ear Coverts deep chestnut (blackish on Males in Eclipse plumage)
  • Crown Grey
  • White Eye-brow and Eye-ring
  • Off-white Throat
  • Buff breast and Flanks
  • Females of Race macgillivrayi often have turquoise tint to tail
