Identification
13 cm. Gray above, white below, with bright red forehead, throat, and breast; black crown and ear patch; white nape patch and rump.
Distribution
United States and Mexico. Winters south to Honduras.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Montane coniferous forests.
Behaviour
It builds a ground nest of rootlets and grasses, and 3 - 4 white, marked eggs are laid.
