Description

Description: 5 1/4" (13 cm). Gray above, white below, with bright red forehead, throat, and breast; black crown and ear patch; white nape patch and rump.

Identification

Habitat: Montane coniferous forests.

Nesting: 3 or 4 white, marked eggs in a loosely assembled ground nest of rootlets and grasses, sheltered by a log, rock, or patch of weeds.

Range: Breeds in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. Winters in tropics.

Voice: Song is a series of rich notes: sweet-sweet-sweet-weeta-see-see-see, similar to that of the Yellow Warbler. Call is a loud chup.

Active and energetic like most warblers, the Red-faced keeps to the outside canopy of tall trees. This warbler has the characteristic habit of flicking its tail sideways
