Sakalava region of northwestern Madagascar status unknown

Endemic to Madagascar (northwestern). Birdlife International reports that it recently was found in new locations, but still list the bird as Endangered.

Taxonomy

A monotypic species.
Placed in the genus Amaurornis by IOC.

Habitat

Rivers, swamps, freshwater lakes, and freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss.
