Distribution

Breeds from eastern Bolivia south to northern Argentina and east to east central Brazil; partially migratory, wintering north to Panama, northern Colombia, northern Venezuela, and Suriname.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Formerly regarded as a subspecies of Ashy-tailed Swift.

Habitat

Forested lowland rivers.
