Distribution
South America: found in south-eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, north-eastern Argentina
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Moist Atlantic forests in areas with lots of bamboo in undergrowth; to 1400 m asl or maybe even higher.
Behaviour
Usually not common and difficult to see, but may flock where bamboo is producing seeds.
Diet
They forage on, or near the ground on seeds, particularly bamboo, but also grass seeds and insects.
