Identification

18cm. Upperparts black, heavily spotted and barred white, dark streaked underparts, red belly patch, irregular brown cheek and neck patches. Female - yellowish crown and nape. Male - yellow fore-crown and scarlet nape.

Distribution

Sri Lanka; India to Indochina.
